Download the right version

This tutorial is made for IPBWI for WordPress v3.1.5 and higher

IPBWI for WordPress is ioncube encoded which means, that you need the ioncube loader installed on your webserver to get it worked. In the download-archive is a loader-file delivered in directory “ioncube”, which will help your hoster installing this extension.

Download IPBWI4WP now and unzip it, e.g. with Total Commander.

Structure of the package

You’ll need a FTP-Client to follow these steps, e.g. Total Commander.

You’ll see two directories in \UPLOAD\:

wordpress

  • upload contents of this to your root WordPress directory
  • Attention: Contents of \UPLOAD\wordpress\wp-content\themes\default\ should be uploaded to your active theme in WordPress.

IP.board

  • upload contents of this to your root IP.board directory

IPBWI Settings in WordPress

First, please open wp-settings.php (located in your wordpress-root-directory) in a text editor and replace all occurences of “=&” with “=”. Remember this step when you’ve updated WordPress – this is required to get smooth single sign on worked and could be reverted through WordPress updates.

Login to WordPress Admin Panel and activate IPBWI for WordPress in your plugin list. After that, you’ll see a new Menu Entry “IPBWI”. Click on that and finish the Core Settings. After that, you can open Single Sign On Settings Page.

Choose between Smooth SSO and Redirect SSO. The difference is, that Redirect SSO needs to redirect some board URLs to WordPress, e.g. Login/Logout/Registration. If you want a monolith SSO system, use this.

If you choose Smooth Single Sign On, IPBWI4WP will be able to sync IP.board and WordPress completely hidden, so no redirects for login/logout/registration are need any longer. Use this, if you dont want to use redirects.

The Entry for cookie domain is the most important setting, so you should read this part carefully. If SSO does not work, play around with your cookie setting here first.

There are 3 options:

  • choose or set manually: Select this for typing in a custom setting. Recommend for professional users and special cases
  • auto detection: IPBWI uses the domain automaticly detected. Use this if you are using many WordPress satellite sites based on WordPress MU/Network on different second-level-domains (e.g. domain1.com, domain2.com, domain3.com) and a board on a different domain.
  • retrieve from board settings (recommended): Best setting when board is on same domain or on a subdomain as the WordPress blog. Best setting for Smooth Single Sign On.

Please note, that Smooth Single Sign On does work on same second-level-domains, only. This means, Smooth Single Sign on work when e.g.:

  • Board is on domain1.com and WordPress on domain1.com
  • Board is on sub1.domain.com and WordPress on sub2.domain.com
  • Board is on domain.com and WordPress on sub.domain.com
  • Board ist on sub.domain.com and WordPress on domain.com

 IPBWI Settings in IP.board

Login to IP.board Admin Panel and go to Manage Applications & Modules and install the application “IPBWI for WordPress”.

  • Activate smooth SSO: Enable the smooth way
  • Path to WordPress: Insert the serverside path to WordPress
  • Blog-Domain: Insert the Domain of your WordPress Blog
  • Blog Cookie Domain: Insert the Cookie-Domain for the blog. When the blog is on a subdomain, use the secondlevel domain, e.g. blog is on sub.domain.com, insert .domain.com
  • Blog / Site ID: For WordPress MU/Network enabled blogs only: Please insert the ID of the network-blog/site you want to connect with IP.board.

Common IP.board Settings

Login to your Board’s Admin CP and go to System Settings -> Server Environment -> Cookies. There are 3 settings:

  • Cookie domain: Insert the Cookie-Domain for the board. When the board is on a subdomain, use the secondlevel domain, e.g. board is on sub.domain.com, insert .domain.com
  • Cookie prefix: left blank
  • Cookie path: left blank

Finished

Sync your test user account (username, password, email) manually or create a blank new account. Your Blog and WordPress should be synced now.

Troubleshooting

  • Delete all Cookies and try the Smooth Single Sign on.
  • If it still doesn’t work, recheck all steps and settings, play around and don’t forget: Each server environment and installation is unique.
  • if you get an error for corrupt files after uploading files via FTP, please make sure you’ve uploaded the files in binary mode
  • If you’ve installed plugins/addons/hacks to WordPress or IP.board, revert all these changes.
  • If nothing helps, ask in the support forum or order paid installation service.
